Back in 1998, three guys with a passion for the environment had an idea …

Robert Kennedy Jr., Chris Bartle and John Hoving decided in 1998 to create a bottled water company that not only sells high-quality, refreshing water but also benefits the environment by donating all of its profits to clean water organizations. They decided to call the company "Keeper Springs" in support of the Waterkeeper Alliance, an international network of environmental groups that protect America's waterways.

The Waterkeeper Alliance grew out of a group that was founded in 1966 by a dedicated cadre of outraged fishermen and residents from New York who banded together to rescue the Hudson River from polluters. Since then the Hudson River has undergone a virtual rebirth — today there are over 100 "Keepers" in the US, Canada and Costa Rica doing their part – heroically and against great odds in many places – to help protect the water resources that belong to everybody. To learn more about the Waterkeeper Alliance please visit their web site.

In 1999 we launched the brand and we have been continuously selling our water in various venues in Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states since then. We are small but we are growing. Even though the bottled water business is a very competitive business, we have strictly limited our promotional budget – and we pay no salaries to our owners – to create maximum value to the environment. We are always looking for more distribution – we sell a great product at a reasonable price with a unique benefit – nobody else in the water business gives 100% of its profits away. Since 1999, we have been responsible for over $500,000 going to the Waterkeeper Alliance, as well as making numerous in-kind donations to numerous groups friendly to the earth.

We believe in saving the earth – we believe that this will only be done when the people seize the destiny of their water supplies and force their governments to act in the interests of all of the people, born and unborn. We love our products, but we wish that much of the reason for the bottled water business did not even exist – that governments invested in the safety and purity of their local fresh water resources and that everyone could proudly drink their local public water supplies. This would save a tremendous amount of waste (read Garbageland by Elizabeth Royte!) and create a healthy ethos – and our bottled water would become a treat and not a necessity. Until then, buy Keeper Springs and we pledge to give everything we make back to the earth.

Keeper Springs donates ALL profits, after taxes, to local Keeper organizations to help preserve and protect America's waterways.
